Top 5 Competitive Pokemon TCG Decks in Standard

Top 5 Competitive Pokemon TCG Decks in Standard

After the release of Cosmic Eclipse, plenty of players were unsure on how the metagame would settle. The community talked highly of Arceus & Dialga & Palkia-GX [Unified Minds 156], that Pidgeotto [Team Up 123] would be broken with Bellelba & Brycen-Man [Cosmic Eclipse 186], and we all thought that Malamar [Forbidden Light 51] was a dead deck. Well, after the results of São Paulo, Daytona Beach, and San Diego, we learned a thing or two about Standard. This article will showcase the top five decks in Standard, a brief strategy for each deck, and my personal deck list for each deck. If you don’t own all of the cards for each of these decks on PTCGO, feel free to use code zlesage5 to save 5% on your order. Trust me, you will need these cards! That being said let’s jump into these decks.

Pokemon TCG Standard format and Dallas thoughts

Pokemon TCG Standard format and Dallas thoughts

Howdy PTCGO Store readers! This is Isaac bringing you another article, this time on the current state of the standard format as well as my top pick going into expanded. After all the tournaments with the current standard format, it has become very defined and the same top decks continue to perform well. Malamar has picked up a large amount of success as many players are beginning to realize its potential and the large skill gap that it presents. After experiences with the Pokemon TCG format several times at regionals and cups, I’ve concluded that Pokemon Gardevoir & Sylveon GX is my favorite deck in PTCGO and has the best matchup spread.

Sword & Shield - New Pokemon TCG Set

Sword & Shield - New Pokemon TCG Set

Welcome back PTCGO Store readers to another article! Today, we are going to be talking about all the newest Pokemon TCG cards to come out of the recently leaked, Sword & Shield Base Set. I have been looking at these cards for a while now and am really excited to bring you all this new information. The newest form of powerful Pokemon are Pokemon V cards. Pokemon V are similar to Pokemon EX from the XY series because they don’t have a GX attack. Instead, they have higher HP and can once again, evolve. Except like Pokemon GX, they don’t evolve from regular Basic Pokemon, they are the Basic Pokemon. Some Pokemon V cards can sometimes evolve into Pokemon VMAX, which is like the Gignatamax evolution in the Sword & Shield video games. Pokemon VMAX rulings still are not confirmed on how they work in game, but for right now, we know right now they evolve from Pokemon V, and give up three prizes when they are knocked out. The Pokemon VMAX in the set so far are Lapras VMAX, Stonjouner VMAX, Snorlax VMAX, and Morpeko VMAX. All of the VMAX Pokemon have over 300 HP so it is very difficult for a lot of decks to keep up with them, especially with all the new healing cards. The set also has quite a lot of good Trainer Cards, as well as regular new Pokemon that have very interesting attacks and abilities. Be sure to check back here on The PTCGO Store after Sword & Shield releases sometime in 2020 to get some Sword & Shield Pokemon TCG codes to get started with the new series! With that being said, I compiled a list of the top 15 new cards from the set that I think have a lot of potential in the new format.

The results from LAIC had a big impact in determining the metagame for Daytona regionals. In Brazil, MewMew, ADP, and ability zard were the three biggest decks as well as the top three decks with the strongest results. Ability zard ended up winning the entire event along with Mewtwos and ADPs taking up the majority top 8 spots as well.
